Tutorial | Quick and Easy Gift Card Holder

Hi All,
Suz here with a quick tutorial on a simple gift card I made with my favorite "go-to" tool; the Silhouette.

Materials &Tools:

  • Computer
  • Silhouette
From January's kit: 1 sheet patterned paper from the kit
                               1 ribbon trim
Velcro tab (optional-could use Glue Dot)
                               Tombo monoadhesive

The first thing I did was to open up my Silhouette software and clicked on the die cut show highlighted below:
I opened up my Silhouette workspace:
Then I dragged and dropped my chosen design into the workspace and resized to make an gift card holder large enough to hold most gift cards; in this case approximately 7 x 8.5 inches. (If you click on the pic you can see the exact dimensions I used).
I

I went to "file"> "Send to Silhouette" and set the settings to cut at "heavy cardstock" (pink topped Silhouette blade) at "3" blade depth and speed of "33."  Click "Cut."
Remove the cut design from the Silhouette mat and fold at the perforations.

Adhere with adhesive along the sides of the "purse." There are two holes in the design to string the "purse strap" through. The holes were a little small for my ribbon trim, so I enlarged each a bit by using my scissors to "x" a larger opening. Thread the ribbon trim through each hole and knot inside the purse as shown below.

Add Velcro attachment to the inside lip of the purse flap.
Adhere embellishment and sentiment and place gift card inside.

You are now good to go!

Easy peasy and a great look for a small amount of time! If you have more specific questions, about the Silhouette, or how I made this project, please leave a comment below. Happy crafting! :)

Freehand Scraps January Kit Reveal | "Kiss the Cook"

Packed with all sorts of fabulous embellishments including adorable metal kitchen utensils and fabulous Ormolu fabric swatches, this kit is sure to serve up a recipe of great layouts and creations!

Here are some of the things I "Whipped" up with the kit. ;) Click on any picture to view larger.

The next layout I created while on vacation with my kit and a just a punch or two. I brought my trusty and tiny Selphy portable printer with me and printed out this 4-up, 4 x 6 photos sequencing the "cousins" sledding down the hillside and hitting a "boy crafted" jump. Definitely a recipe for fun!

I actually kinda enjoyed utilizing the kitchen recipe card and utensils in an unconventional/non-traditional way. (Sometimes, that's just how I roll. One way I keep the creative juices flowing. Think out of the box. Or in this case, out of the pot!) ;)

Lastly, here's a quick little "purse" gift certificate card holder I made quickly and easily. I will be posting a tutorial later this week on how I created it. :)

Happy 2012 to all! Hope your year is filled with peace, love, joy, and good health.

Just got home a little bit ago. 800+ mile drive and I am ready to sleep in my own bed. While our trip was lovely, I am very happy to be safely home.

As promised, here is Sneak.2 I apologize the pics are less than optimum. Forgot about the time change and how the light would be for taking pics at the condo.

Wondering how snowflakes and pots and spoons can come together in one layout? Stay tuned for the full reveal on Jan 1!
And from snowflakes to flowers? All in one kit? It's possible people! This kit has it all! :)
Head on over to www.freehandscraps.com to see what the other designers have created with this fabulous kit!

Freehand Scraps Jan Kit Sneaks.1

Hi All,
Hope you are having a safe, healthy, and happy holiday break. We have been having fun with family and I have lots of pretty photos to share as soon as I am able.
Meanwhile, here are a few sneaks of January 2012's Freehand Scraps kit. It is a wonderful collection of embellishments and pattern papers that are sure to please any scrapping enthusiast. Very versatile and the color palette works well for either gender. I have created 5 items with this kit already and am certain I can make at least 2-3 more layouts/cards with it. :)

Without further adieu,
SNEAK.1:

I'll be back late tomorrow night with a few more sneaks! :)

Happy December | Freehand Scraps "Chubby Penguin"

Happy December everyone! The first official day of holiday merrymaking begins with the reveal of FHS December kit!

When I first got my hands on the kit, I fell in love with the chubby little penguins that were it's inspiration. So many lovely embellishments to help document the holiday season with style and penguin spunk! And a lovely collection of holiday papers to get your paper crafting rolling. Without further adieu, I give you "Chubby Penguins":

And my creations ( we had some pretty overcast days here, so pics are a bit off on colors).

I added a little Glossy Accents to their eyeballs to add dimension.

And I placed the little puffy penguins in the glitter photo corners to mimic toboggans. :)

More Glossy accents here to add dimension to the ornaments. This was such a fun and happy layout to create!

Had a bit of fun making this wreath embellie too!

And a quick candle embellishment to add to my tablescape. I'll have a quick tutorial on how I made this a bit later.

And this card was actually the first item I created for my gallery. I added eyelashes with a Sharpie to make one of the penguins the momma of the fam (and to represent me!) LOL

here's hoping your holiday season is full of merrymaking and joy! Happy holidays! Happy December! :)

PS. I have a lot of kit still left and plan to use it in my December daily and Project Life albums! :)

Scrapping at the Cabin

Last weekend was My Scrappin Sistas "Scrappin' @ the Cabin November Birthday Bash." Four of 6 of us have birthdays in Nov. (I may have mentioned this in a previous post-sorry if I did). I loveeeee this weekend and look forward to it all year long. This year was no exception. Here are a few pics from the weekend:
first night dinner and snacks. The za was really good and so was my homemade snack crack in my new-to -me vintage Pyrex dish. :)
 Setting up shop:
Waiting on one table to arrive.
Found this sturdy lovely for $5 at antique/thrift store. Other than the knob slightly cracked its sturdy and very useful. I love the color and I love that it is the exact same kettle that my mom used to cook with and my dad used to make old fashioned on-the-stovetop popcorn with at our lake cabins growing up. Great memories. I had forgotten we even had a kettle like that until I saw this one in the store and it triggered the memory. :)

Sweet B2 getting her cooking skills on. Semi-homemade minestrone for the rest of the Sistas to eat upon their arrival.

And the rest of the Sistas arrival:

 Favors (ala Lexi):

Gifts:

Goodies:

 Catching up chatter:
Opening gifts:
Some outtakes of the Sistas with the self timer.

Some confusion over which hand held the "5" and which hand the "0" as someone in the group was celebrating her Big 5-0. Can you guess who?

The birthday girl is riding on her gift from the makeshift "Scooter Store." ;)
Gorgeous lakefront skies:

In full scrapping mode:
the mess that is creativity in action:
A birthday cake candle blowing out break:

Sweet P's fabulous spaghetti fix ins. Complete with cheesy bread. D-lish. (We also had fabulous lasagna homemade by Lex. Definitely will be getting her recipe. Yumola!

Some DD peaks: (Inside front cover).
Jules at my vintage Royal. Yes, we use every square inch of the cabin when we scrap! ;)
 Fondue fixins.
 Chocolate fondue that is!

Julie smiling after something spilled on her seat and she declared herself a "Human Mop."
Home to find a clean house and lovely lights.
I realize that, yes, I really had more than a few pics to post but this celebration only happens once a year and so, therefore, I conclude,  a photo-laden post is completely acceptable.
Back later with Thanksgiving Weekend Lens and sneaks of the fabulous Freehand Scraps December kit. You won't want to miss out on this one! It's adorable!! Speaking of not missing out, head on over to Freehand Scraps and grab yourself a kit or two @40% off before they are all sold out. Grab bags at more than 50% off too.
